META AND APPLE
🎨 Meta and Apple Introduce Major Updates for Advertisers and Creators
Insights from Social Media Today
Meta and Apple are rolling out significant updates that will impact Instagram influencers and advertisers globally, focusing on AI interactions and ad fee structures.
The details:
Meta has launched the first phase of its “AI Studio” platform, enabling Instagram creators to build AI versions of themselves to interact with fans via DM. These custom AI bots, currently in beta testing, will answer questions in the style of the creator.
They are marked with a star icon and disclaimers to indicate AI responses. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this during an interview, highlighting that the AI Studio aims to help creators manage interactions by handling common queries while ensuring users know they are engaging with a bot.
Starting next week, Facebook and Instagram advertisers will face a 30% fee from Apple for purchasing ads via an iOS device, unless they switch to desktop purchases. This fee, previously introduced in the U.S., will now apply globally. Meta has updated its web processes to facilitate boosting without incurring Apple’s fee.
Meta’s Director of Privacy & Fairness Policy, Pedro Pavón, criticized the fee as anti-competitive, a view supported by regulators worldwide. Apple justifies the fee as compensation for access to its platform, despite ongoing legal challenges from businesses like Epic Games.
Advertisers are advised to adjust their purchasing strategies to avoid additional costs, with Meta guiding how to navigate these changes.

🚀 Google Ads and Analytics Introduce Major Updates with AI Enhancements
Insights from Search Engine Land, Google, and Social Media Today
Google Ads and Analytics are rolling out significant updates to enhance query matching, brand controls, and AI-driven insights, aiming to improve performance and streamline ad management.
The details:
Google Ads Enhancements: Google Ads introduces four updates to query matching and brand controls. Brand inclusions in the broad match now help limit traffic to selected brands. A new brand inclusion recommendation is on the Recommendations page. Brand exclusions are now across all match types and Dynamic Search Ads (DSA), blocking specific brands and misspellings. Misspelled queries will also now appear correctly spelled in the search terms report.
Google Analytics Updates: Google Analytics 4 now includes AI-powered insights for clear explanations of key data events. Aggregated impressions from Campaign Manager 360 accounts offer deeper campaign performance insights. Enhanced cross-channel budgeting tools, including media pacing projections, are introduced. Google also integrates support for Chrome Privacy Sandbox APIs for performance measurement without third-party cookies.
These updates offer advertisers and marketers more powerful tools for improving ad performance and campaign management. Enhanced AI capabilities in both Google Ads and Analytics aim to provide better targeting, improved visibility, and more efficient budgeting.

Character AI, a platform known for its chatbots with distinct personalities and backstories, recently faced user complaints about its AI companions becoming “boring” and repetitive. These concerns highlight the significant progress AI startups have made in capturing user attention. Character AI’s popularity suggests a future where AI platforms could rival social media in user engagement, a trend already visible according to Bessemer Venture Partners.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT, with 2.5 billion monthly visits, now surpasses Discord and Reddit in traffic and is nearly on par with Elon Musk’s X. While Facebook remains the leader with 16 billion monthly visits, Meta’s significant investments in AI, such as Llama-3, are shaping the industry. Unlike some AI startups focusing solely on business partnerships, platforms like X and Meta are integrating AI features for everyday users, potentially merging social media and AI platforms. Bessemer predicts that by 2030, the top three spots in the attention economy will be dominated by companies rooted in AI technology.
